Overview

Privacy/Proxy Program Development Workshop

This workshop is intended to engage the community in a dialog that will help ICANN to build an accreditation program for Whois privacy and proxy services. The privacy/proxy accreditation program was conceived during the current round of RAA amendment discussions. Speakers will include representatives from the registrar community, law enforcement agencies, intellectual property interests, and non-commercial users.

Topics for discussion include:

  • an overview of what Whois privacy and proxy services are and how they work;
  • potential "reveal and relay" obligations (i.e., when underlying customer data should be revealed to third parties and when communications from third parties should be relayed to the underlying customer);
  • other rules that could be applied to privacy and proxy services for the protection of their customers; and
  • methods for ensuring due process where there are allegations of harm cause by privacy and proxy service customers.
